Wallace Burial Grounds

Mary Frances Wallace Williams was the daughter of Rhea and Sally Reid Wallace, who were among Jericho’s early residents and Wallace owned acreage on which the Wallace Burial Grounds was located. Wallace, who died in 1868, and his wife, who died in 1877, are both buried in Wallace burial Grounds as is their two-year-old son, James E.

Other graves there are those of Judge Williams (1841-1912); his wife (1851-1921); and their children, Robert B. (May 5, 1876-September 25, 1876), Ethel H. (1877-83), Iola (1870-86), and Elbert Ray (1875-1913, and Hubert A. (1884-1915); John Lawrence King, husband of Vesta Williams, who died in 1910; and Frank Williams (1884-about 1900), son of Judge Williams’ brother Peter. Peter Williams was a Jericho resident in the 1880’s and at the same time another brother, Benjamin, lived at Crawfordsville.

Others believed to be buried there are Mathew Wallace and his wife, Sara; Jesse Wallace, father of Rhea; William Wallace, Oliver Wallace, Jr., Washington Wayne Wallace, John Wallace, and Flora Givens Williams, Charles Williams, and Thomas Williams, nieces and nephews of John H. Williams.
